TDN has set up a blog to keep the conversation and post relevant information to the Network members. We encourage you to visit and share information with TDN members.

The aim of the Training Directions Network is to bring together training providers and interested workers in Western Sydney to discuss and identify current cross-sectorial strategies to meet the training needs of community based organisations.

The Training Directions Network will aim to establish priority areas for training, develop strategies for innovative training for community based organisations and to develop informal and formal partnerships and networks.

Objectives

• To explore potential funding sources to increase the scope of available training to community based organisations,
• To assess and identify needs, duplication, deficits and priority training issues with a long-term outcome to develop implementation strategies that reinforce learning cultures within community based organisations,
• To act as a forum for information and communication exchange leading to working together cooperatively and collaboratively with other related Networks and Interagencies.
• Act as an advocate for training and related issues for community based organisations in Western Sydney to be represented at a local, State and Federal government level, with the outcome to influence policy, funding and training delivery.

Reporting Mechanisms

The Training Directions Network and its activities will be reported to the core group via the bi-monthly meetings. If time limited working parties form then they will also use the former reporting mechanism as a way of monitoring and evaluating the Network achievements.

Review Mechanisms

The Training Directions Network will hold regular planning and evaluation sessions to ensure the aims of the Network are being met, and if emerging issues need to be considered by the Network. Opportunities for informal reporting will occur at and between the bi–monthly meetings.

Membership

Membership is by invitation to non–government and government training providers, community development workers and other stakeholders in identifying and responding to the training and development needs of the community based sector within Western Sydney.

Training Partners

Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) undertakes Information Technology, digital arts and multimedia projects with disadvantaged and socially isolated communities.

ICE currently runs IT and Community Cultural Development projects with new and emerging communities, young people and community organisations in partnership with government, community and business with the focus on enhancing education, employment and opportunities for self expression across Western Sydney. 

ICE also works towards building Information Technology infrastructures through IT training support and advocacy.

(CCWT) is the learning and development arm of a NSW peak body, the Association of Childrens Welfare Agencies (ACWA) and provides professional development opportunities for staff employed across the community services industry.

CCWT activity includes:

• A comprehensive program of accredited and non-accredited training delivered through annual training Calendar and Cutomised Training Services at venues across NSW;
• Development of best practice resources through funded projects;
• Access to nationally recognised qualifications and/or statements of attainment under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF);
• Contribution to a range of learning and development activities across the network of industry organisations including facilitation of practice forums; involvement in research; development of relevant practice standards, curriculum and assessment resources; mentoring of staff; strategic planning; scholarships and conference presentations.

The mission of FWTDP is to enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of workers (paid and voluntary) in the non government sector, to assist them to support families (with dependent children) living in a diverse and changing environment.

Macarthur and South West Sydney HACC Training Project

The Macarthur & South West Sydney HACC Training Project is funded by the Federal and State Governments to provide assistance with training to staff, volunteers and management committee members that work for the Home & Community Care Services in Macarthur, Wollondilly & South West Sydney Local Government Areas (Liverpool, Fairfield & Bankstown). The project is auspiced and resourced by Macarthur Disability Services. Training is provided in-house (at request) and at other venues.

TAFE NSW is an organisation within Department of Education and Training which is charged with meeting the vocational training needs of people in NSW. The organisation works closely with industry groups and VETAB to respond to industry training needs and the national training agenda. Outreach is the section of TAFE which develops and delivers programs which address the needs of educationally disadvantaged students. Some of the target group are refugees, youth at risk, women returning to the workforce, the homeless, unemployed, migrants and people in custody.

TAFE Outreach programs are usually aimed at entry level training and are mostly delivered in community locations like community centres or church halls. Most TAFE Outreach programs are free of TAFE enrolment charges and priority of access is given to those most in need.

UnitingCare Burnside provides a range of high quality training workshops that extends the skills of experienced professionals as well as workers who have limited experience. UnitingCare Burnside, an agency of the Uniting Church in Australia, has been assisting vulnerable children and families since 1911. In that time Burnside has grown and adapted to meet the changing needs of the community.

The main focus includes:

• Parenting Education Training Courses
• Out of Home Care
• Youth Services Training Courses
• Other training courses
